The TRATOLOW project recently concluded a two-day workshop in Belgrade, focusing on enhancing accreditation and verification capabilities for Serbia's upcoming emissions trading system (ETS). The event brought together 20 experts of key stakeholders from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Serbian National Accreditation Body and technical assessors from various institutes.

Since the adoption of the Law on Climate Change in March 2021, Serbia has been diligently preparing for implementation of an installation-level monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) system, along the lines of the EU ETS MRVA. This was supported by the TRATOLOW project through workshops and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

The workshop aimed to provide practical insights into ETS accreditation and verification, tailored to Serbia's specific requirements. Participants gained a deeper understanding of these processes, equipping them to navigate accreditation effectively and align with European standards.

Led by seasoned experts, the two-day agenda covered crucial topics such as the ETS MRVA roles and responsibilities, the ETS MRV compliance cycle, verifier tasks, and detailed verification processes. Participants engaged in discussions on day one, focusing on legal requirements and verifier responsibilities, while day two delved into verification intricacies and non-standard activities.

The workshop's successful completion marks a significant step in Serbia's journey towards implementing an effective emissions trading system. By strengthening accreditation and verification capabilities, key stakeholders are better prepared to ensure the system's success and alignment with European standards.
