The TRATOLOW Regional Workshop for EU ETS Verifiers in Serbia took place in Belgrade from April 16 to April 18, 2024, spanning three days. The workshop enhanced expertise in ETS verification in the region, particularly in Serbia, to prepare stakeholders for accreditation as ETS verifiers. More than 40 participants attended, including experts from the Serbian Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Serbian Environmental Protection Agency, and future ETS verifiers. 

The workshop addressed a range of topics pertinent to ETS verification, such as carbon pricing, the Climate Law, and the MRV implementing rulebooks. Additionally, it delved into the eGHG, an IT platform developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection for GHG permitting and MRV management. Through exercises and discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of ETS monitoring and reporting principles.

The agenda featured presentations by experienced EU ETS verifiers, EU ETS Competent Authorities, and representatives from the Serbian Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Serbian National Accreditation Body. Topics ranged from the mechanics of emissions trading to verification principles, cross-border verification, and the Serbian accreditation process.

Overall, the workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of verification in an emissions trading system, equipping potential verifiers to fulfill their tasks under an ETS planned for operation in Serbia, aligning with the EU ETS framework.
