Following the event on energy modelling for NDCs which took place in September 2022 and in reply to beneficiaries’ request for further practical training, the TAIEX TRATOLOW Regional workshop on Energy modelling was held March 1- 3, 2023, in Istanbul, Türkiye. Participants from relevant Ministries in the TRATOLOW beneficiaries joined speakers from EU Member States (Austria, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovenia) from authorities involved in energy modelling and research, as well as a scientific and research institution in North Macedonia.
The objective of the workshop was to further improve the energy modelling expertise of the TRATOLOW beneficiaries, as well as to increase their knowledge on possibilities for development and challenges in the implementation of energy policies and measures that contribute to climate change mitigation. Throughout the three-day workshop, participants focused on the energy model inputs and outputs, the importance of data collection and availability and of establishing multidisciplinary expert teams for energy modelling, assessing the impact of energy measures, and designing climate-related decisions to support decision-makers in energy sector.
The workshop started with a general part where the before-selected energy modelling tools were presented and discussed in detail and continued with the part where attendees participated in extensive modelling exercises. Attendees also had the opportunity to share their experiences with energy sector modelling, learning from each other's successes and mistakes. Through these training sessions, participants further improved their skills as well as gained an in-depth understanding of different useful energy modelling tools that they can use in the future.
